I had a blast working on Brian Tyler’s score for Adam Shankman’s “What Men Want”. The main character Ali Davis (played by Taraji P Henson) is hilarious and fun while also being a confident and smart go-getter; she’s a tough sports agent working in a man’s world, garnering success by any means necessary. We knew that a traditional orchestral score wouldn’t fit her personality or the feel of the film, so Brian opted for jazz trio pieces along with some throwback R&B and funk and soul. There are a few bittersweet moments in the movie that are supported by beautiful upright jazz bass, piano, and saxophone. I was fortunate to be able to arrange some 70s funk music for the film, which included wah electric guitar and a slick bassline. I could not be more thrilled with how the final score complements the film so perfectly – check it out for yourself!
